Shattered Horizon
2020This performative piece explores destruction, loss, grief, and survivor’s guilt. Shot in California soon after the August 4th Beirut blast, it emerged from a diasporic longing to help from afar—witnessing a homeland’s tragedy through screens, from the comfort and discomfort of a distant reality. It contrasts the instant of devastation with the immeasurable time of recovery, reflecting on the fragile, virtual ways we process collective trauma. It also examines the conflicting, often gendered roles we inhabit in times of crisis. What unfolds between the event and its aftermath—and who is left to pick up the pieces?
